Meet Fizz (Felicity), Rocket and Tilly (not present.) Devoted to people, travel and the outdoors, the team love to share their passion for biking, food, wine and arts with all their guests.

With a rural, farming background, Fizz offers true wholesome old-fashioned hospitality, merged with an insatiable zest for tourism.

Fizz began operating these premises under the brand name, Antique Lodge Motel, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. In late 2022, she rebranded the motel to Clyde Central.

The new moniker and offering reflect Fizz’s desire to help travellers, tourists and locals connect more strongly through hospitality. Clyde Central offers so much more than just a room in a motel. You’ll find experiences and collaborations with likeminded operators in the region.

Clyde is nestled in a sheltered basin at the foot of an immense and crooked gorge, now flooded by the huge concrete hydro dam just upstream. The old gorge was a severe test of mettle for early goldfields traffic and horse teams often paused in Clyde to prepare for the rigours ahead.

The town is surrounded by an area renowned first for gold, then for its stone fruit orchards, especially in the Earnscleugh district. The fruits thrived here in the hot, dry summers but more recently huge areas of grapes have been planted with local vineyards producing their internationally renowned Pinot Noir.

Many historic buildings have survived and the town centre has been declared a historic precinct. Some buildings have been refurbished as cafes, bars, and places to stay.

The current population of Clyde is roughly 1000 people but, as many of these are owners of holiday homes, the usual population is somewhat smaller than that.
